WEEK 40 Transfers coming-FOOD!!!-keeping busy!

Hi Everyone, I am in an internet cafe which is nice.  Definately not an American one, but it's good enough to communicate and I am grateful for that!  We eat like kings right now that I have so much money since I save it all.  I am going to try and gain some chubs back hahaha So I was working with two elders, Elder Wilson and Elder Breckenridge (From Missoui). They are both super cool! Breckenridge is the man and I think I am going to be working with him next transfer here. But, last week a Kiribati elder that is waiting for his visa so he can go to the MTC came and is now my companion.   He is from here and he is never is the one talking in the lesson, because he doesn't know how to teach. In the lessons I have to talk the whoooollleee time and it's really tiring sometimes. He is going to go work in Guam and speak English.  His English is not good at all. He doesn't understand any English, so I only talk in Kiribati to him. ' So this coming transfer I

WEEK 39 I have 2 companions-EGGS!-study lots!

Hi Family, I am on Tarawa now and am learning lots.  I can't tell you everything I learn because that's too much, but I learn a lot of language and Book of Mormon stuff, along with Bible stuff, and deep doctrine.  I was staying in a tiny tiny tiny house with 1 elder, my companion.  Then one elder just came from an outer island because his companion had to go home so we are in a 3 some.  He is super cool and I'm super glad he's here. And my last companion on Nikunau snored so loud it was ridiculous but these two that I'm with right now don't really.  Here on Tarawa they have FOOD!!!!! I eat EGGS!!!! They are soooo good!!!!  Frying an egg is such a luxury mmmmmmmm!  And then we have a toaster, so we buy bread and make toast.  We also found oats in a store so we make oatmeal every morning too.  The elder that just got here from Missouri he calls it porridge haahaaa, so we call it that too now.  But it's good, and I'm going to gain some weight now for su

WEEK 38 Life in Tarawa-language getting easier-busy teaching

Hi family! The other day I realized how far I have come in the language,  how blessed I've been.  We lesson-ed with a really smart guy and I taught so smoothly and was able to answer all of his questions that were really good.  It was like it wasn't even me talking. It was cool, super cool experience!  As senior companion I'm guiding the lessons and and teaching, and its really fun!  Guess what I ate this yesterday morning, yeah, I actually ate eggs !!! It was crazy and tasted sooo good.  My companion now works insanely hard which is good!  His n ame is Elder Wilson. He is 19 and has been here in Kiribati for 3 months. So I'm here working in Tarawa. This morning we woke up early and went to Betio and bought  turtle to eat the meat for 5 dollars and cut it up and ate it! I will have to get a legal document from Kiribati so that I can bring the shell home!!!  It's soooo cool! My second one and this one was small so I'm keeping the shell! and it looks sooo

WEEK 37 He made the plane!!! lots to share...

OHHHH HAPPY DAY!!!!!  Elder Bowen made it on the plane from Nikunau to Tarawa with his companion, Elder Ntiua, who is headed home as he has completed his full time mission.  Carson now that he can easily email shared many things including speaking the language which can sounds kinda like singing or rather his voice that goes high and low as a song.  He is feeling good and has not been sick for several weeks, even says he has become a skinny little boy which we witnessed!!!!  Muscles will come back one day!  The plan is to now stay on Tarawa for a few weeks, then take a new companion back to the island of Nikunau to meet with the now existing 'unit' of the church and open up a 'branch'.  He states this will take a lot of work but he can handle it and the people are ready for it as they just had 11 baptisms.  Currently there are no missionaries on the island until Elder Bowen returns with a companion. He rolls up pants on the island however, on the big island he just

WEEK 36 No room on plane-try again next week-ran out of food-bought PIG

Hi Family,  I'm going back to Tarawa definitely this Monday. There was no room on the plane this last Monday (4th time). I hope to Skype next week sometime. The transfers keep changing and now I will be working on Tarawa for a little and I think I'll be coming back to this island with another companion so they don't have to white wash here.  I  think I'll go to another outer island after that. This island ran out of flour and rice last week so we ate just random stuff.  Haha luckly the boat just came to give us some cargo (food).  Yes, I use my machete everyday, it's awesome!  The other week we had a ward party and my companion bought a pig for 300 dollars.  He had a lot of money because he's finishing his time.  We killed it last week and it was sooo good!  fooood! ahh! I am excited to watch conference and listen to it in Tarawa, and hear all the changes!    Just a quick update, hope all  is well and everyone is happy. Love, Elder Bowen Thank You
