WEEK 61 Still on Abemama - baptism - sick - got package - working hard!

Hi Everyone! I am still here on Abemama!  There were originally 6 and then last transfer went down to 4 elders. Transfers happened last week and 2 elders up north were BOTH transferred.  So,  it's just me and my same companion here. I'm district leader. Still riding bikes everywhere.  1 baptism happened this week that was super cool for this 9 year old. But the work is coming because I'm working hard and dragging my companion everywhere talking to everyone. But yes dope week. Also, I got a sickness that made my back way sore that I couldn't get up off the ground, mat, my bed and didn't work that day. Then the next day my stomach was sick. But now I'm all good! And excited to be healthy and work out again. I've been working out hard every morning so I've gotten pretty big.   I am committed to spreading the gospel!  But yes blessing have been coming everyday. The big man upstairs is really preparing people for us. It's very  noti...

WEEK 60 Transfers - Baptism Saturday, ate eel, doing great!

Mauri! Not too much happened this week. The baptism is changed to this Saturday because they said "if she gets baptized then someone's gonna say who died?" Hahaha think about it.  She was sick and couldn't make it.  Don't want to scare anyone! So we are going to do it this Saturday! Cool things I ate this week was an eel(a huge one) and a duck egg! The eel was huge!!! I didn't know what to do with it so I just threw it on our roof.  I thought that would be the best spot haha!  But I told a bunch of the members about it and they said bring it and we'll cook it! So good eating an egg and eel! Its been so long since I have eaten egg. You can only eat them out here if you find them!!  We are patiently waiting in central for the AP to tell us about transfers.  Today being Pday we are going to fish off the bridge while we wait the news. I hope I get to watch conference, I didn't get to watch the last one that had all the changes. ...

WEEK 59 early morning eel fishing!-working so hard-priesthood is REAL!

Mauriooo!!! Hey Hey! Today was legit!  I woke up randomly at like 5:00 am and couldn't go back to sleep so I got my fishing stuff and went outside our house and plopped my line in. I ended up catching a few fish and 1 eel, small eel. Then my line got snagged for like 5 minutes. Then, I see this eel go after my bate that is stuck. It bit it then got hooked! I watched it squirm and got my line free and then I just pulled this eel up out of the water!!!!! And, this thing wasn't just an eel, this thing was a monster!! It was about as thick as my arm!  and was so big! Then I grabbed a rock and crushed its head to kill it. That is how it is done here.  And man, those things don't wanna die!! But that was cool. Food!!!!  Another cool thing, when me and my companion set up that big fish trap next to the house, there were a bunch of sea urchins(spiky balls). They were like a vibrant blue and looked so sick. So, I had to touch it of course with my sho...

WEEK 58 working hard - blessings of the priesthood

September 3, 2018 We received a brief email from Elder Bowen stating he was doing well and very busy.  He was mindful of the importance of the priesthood and all the blessings it can have on people and members of the church.  His purpose and goal was to use his priesthood authority more to bless lives and teach them of the impact priesthood blessings can have in families. Till next week! (we hope)

WEEK 57 Fishing - biking tons - being obedient

Hey hey!  Mauri!  We just got back from fishing! We caught a ton! We traveled up central and met up with the North Elders at this members house and then went ocean side. We fished when it's low tide just like on the coral with line, a hook, and a stick. I know all the fishes names in Kiribati but not in English so I can't really explain what they were exactly. I like to think I'm a bit of a fisherman. hahah. Towards the end the waves started getting too big so we started coming back.  On the way back there were tons  of eels, and it's super fun trying to kill them and throw rocks at them before they bite you. Also they taste really good. But if they bite you, RIP haha. Luckily we killed one! While doing so, there were a couple of puffer fish that some kid got that went with us!! We got like 2. they look so cool and just really fat. When i was getting some pictures I dropped it on the sand on accident and then the members dog swooped in and took it, and ate it....

WEEK 56 Great Zone Conference - Transfers - surviving rains on Abemama

Image
Mauri!  So many things happened these past few days! I can't even explain everything, but I will try: 1) Me and companion traveled up to central of island and 2 members on the island threw us a big goodbye party in case we didn't come back from being transferred. Gave us the traditional flowers on head and we danced. Super fun. Kiribati parties are like parties on the other side of heaven. Way flipping fun. 2)Traveled up north and then stayed at the northern elders house next to the airport. The next day we went and waited for the plane.  However, after waiting a few hours we were told that the plane wasn't coming because it's going to Peru (another outer island) because someone got stabbed. So we grabbed our duffel bags and backpacks and headed back to north house. Slept there the night then went back to the landing strip hoping the plane would come. Then fortunately, after waiting all day, the plane came and we flew to Tarawa! APs picked us up from the airpor...
